MassChallenge Boston – Community &  Ecosystem Research Intern

As a Research Intern at MassChallenge, you are responsible for developing research and information to uncover opportunities to support the long-term growth of the MassChallenge Boston program. You will report to the Managing Director (MD) of MassChallenge Boston. You will get to see first-hand how the organization operates and have many opportunities to help us reach our goals. You will work closely with the MD to support her and be a liaison between her efforts and the rest of the organization.

This position will enable you to learn from the MD and get perspective on all facets of a fast-growing organization. You should thrive off a fast-paced work environment; have a willingness to roll up your sleeves, and the conviction to grow into an expert in the not-for-profit, global startup accelerator, and innovation economy realms. You will learn more than you can imagine in this role, so we are looking for someone who is excited to learn and grow as an individual and/or professional.

Major Responsibilities Include

  • Conduct research on accelerators, industries, startup ecosystems and corporate innovation trends as directed by the MD.
  • Research and build a framework to map the startup ecosystem in greater Boston
  • Provide analysis on how other non-profit entrepreneurship support organizations effectively support high-impact, high-potential startups
  • Research companies and individuals in advance of MD meetings or events as needed
  • Identify relevant info sources for MD to read on a local and national level related to innovation economies, accelerators and other topics as needed
  • Participate in external meetings with the MD where appropriate to learn, take notes and create a synopsis.
  • Be a utility player for the organization where needed - assist with events, special projects and other initiatives across departments as needed to support the Boston team

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and background – Word, Excel, PowerPoint; while also being able to quickly learn systems and processes specific to the department
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading and editing
  • Commitment to providing high-quality service through responsiveness to all requests and maintains a professional demeanor at all times

    • You don't need to be an expert in all of these platforms -- but you need to be competent enough with technology to learn new software quickly.
